Just Click OK: Technology, Autonomy, and Educational Decision Making

When we decide to use technology we should consider the potential pitfalls and embarrasments that come from working in unfamiliar territory.

One example can open discussion of how things are different when teaching with techonology. In this case the example comes from a class Web site.

In addition to unexpected results that might come from people having new windows into our teaching, faculty should be concerned about

Fear of embarrasment

Fear of failure

Fear of becoming technocentric at the risk of subject matter

Fear of letting down students.

Regardless of repercussions related to working with new ways of teaching, the rewards inherent in using technology can outweigh personal concerns and thoughful itegration of technology into teaching can be successful.
